Skateboarding has evolved from its origins in California to become a worldwide cultural movement. Its influence permeates fashion, music, urban art, and youth lifestyle across the globe. From its modest beginnings on the streets of California to its proliferation around the world, skateboarding has proven to be much more than a physical activity: it is a form of expression, a community united by values of creativity, freedom, and camaraderie, and a source of inexhaustible inspiration for present and future generations.
The exhibition features an incredible lineup, composed of Bay Area artists, alongside Southern CA artists. Additionally, Irene has curated works from international artists who have either lived in the Bay or share a profound connection to its creative scene. These artists, ranging from established legends to rising stars, bring their own unique voices and styles, making SKATE a dynamic and thrilling experience.
